Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Cupar in the early hours of Saturday.
The 46-year-old victim sustained facial injuries in the attack, which happened in Bonnygate. He was treated in hospital and later released.
A police spokesman said: “Officers in Cupar are dealing with an assault which occurred at about 1.30am on November 23 on Bonnygate adjacent to Cross Keys Close.
“The victim, a local man, was at the scene among a group when he was assaulted by an as yet unidentified male.
“Positive lines of inquiry are being progressed, in particular in relation to a review of available CCTV footage and tracing potential witnesses who have been identified as being on the Bonnygate at the time.
“However, north-east Fife officers are appealing for the assistance of members of the public as it is apparent that numerous people, thought to be local residents, were at the scene when the victim was assaulted.
“The assailant was observed to walk off along the Bonnygate towards Cross Keys Close immediately after the assault.
“It is requested that anyone with information about this crime, or who can assist in any way with the identification of the person responsible, should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
