Gusts of 76 miles per hour were recorded on the bridge on Wednesday afternoon, meaning it is only suitable for cars to cross. If wind speeds hit 80mph then the bridge closes to all traffic. But some lorry drivers have still been attempting to cross the bridge, despite the risk to themselves and other vehicles. A bridge spokesman said: “Drivers should respect the restrictions.” A breakdown just after 4pm caused delays on the southbound carriageway.
