An elderly woman and her daughter from Fife were brutally assaulted in Glasgow on Friday afternoon, it has emerged.
The 83-year-old and her 60-year-old daughter had been enjoying a day out in the city when they were attacked by a man in Glasgow Green at around 2.30pm.
Both women suffered serious facial injuries and were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for further treatment.
Police have now appealed for witnesses to the “cowardly and unprovoked” attack to come forward and believe the assault may have been seen by a number of people.
Detective Constable Paul Fraser, from London Road CID in Glasgow, said: “This was a completely unprovoked and cowardly attack on an elderly woman and her daughter who had come to Glasgow to enjoy a day out.
“Both victims have been left very distressed by the ordeal and have returned home to Fife.
“Glasgow Green would been busy around the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“In particular we would like to speak to the driver of a coach who witnessed the attack and went to their assistance.
“We would urge him to come forward as soon as possible.”
The women had been outside the People’s Palace on Montieth Row when the man approached and violently attacked them without warning.
The man, who is described as white, around 20-years-old, of medium build and 5ft 8in tall, then ran off along Montieth Road towards London Road.
He was also said to be wearing dark clothing and was carrying a dark rucksack at the time.
