Perth’s most popular cultural attraction begins, with top acts to perform up to the end of the month.

Perth Festival of the Arts features scores of stars including Jools Holland, The Proclaimers, Courtney Pine and King Creosote along with a strong selection of classical music and The Royal Marines Band, who will be playing the final concert on May 31.

Ticket sales are understood to have gone well and The English Touring Opera’s production of La Boheme is sure to pull in a sizeable crowd at Perth Concert Hall on Thursday night, when the cast will be accompanied by a 25-piece orchestra.

Meanwhile, more than 300 works of art will be displayed at the Perth Concert Hall Plaza Marquee for the ArTay exhibition.

Schools are involved again and Perth Grammar School will host a concert at St John’s Kirk on Friday at 12.30pm.

Tomorrow will also see King Creosote and his eight-piece band play at Perth Concert Hall, with Frank Lloyd playing pieces from Beethoven, Strauss, Schumann and Bach as part of the french horn recital at St John’s Kirk in the evening.

Saturday’s programme will see the Andrew Forbes Organ Recital in St John’s Kirk from 11am, with a Festival Ceilidh featuring the Jim Mackay Dance Band at the Salutation Hotel from 8pm.

One of Scotland’s top acts, The Proclaimers, will play their host of memorable songs to a packed audience at Perth Concert Hall on Saturday evening.

The weekend’s performances will finish off with the BBC Philharmonic accompanied by Tine Thing Helseth playing a selection of classical pieces at Perth Concert Hall on Sunday.

Next week’s concerts will include jazz legend Courtney Pine, Scottish Opera, The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars and Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

This will be the seventh time Holland will have played the Perth Festival of the Arts and this year his band will be accompanied by Marc Almond.
