A young Perth mother was left “terrified” after her grandparent’s home was targeted in a bizarre break-in attempt.
The woman, who asked not to be named, was staying alone at the property on Logie Crescent with her newborn son when the incident happened.
She told The Courier how she discovered a man trying to make his way into the house through a cat flap in the early hours of yesterday morning.
After hearing a noise in the kitchen at around 12.40am, she went to investigate and was horrified to see a pair of arms reaching through the device.
“I was sitting in the living room with my baby when I heard the flap,” she said.
“All the pets were in the house, so I knew it couldn’t have been them and I went to see what it was.
“I came through and two hands were sticking through the flap.
“I phoned the police straight away and while I was talking to them, I spotted this face staring at me through the kitchen window. I just ran back through to the living room and shut the door.”
Within minutes, officers from Police Scotland arrived at the property but the man had already fled.
The mother of two, who is looking after the house for her grandparents, said she will not feel safe until the would-be burglar has been traced.
She added: “This is something I couldn’t go through again he gave me the fright of my life.
“I was too scared to stay here on my own and I spent the rest of the night at my mum’s house.
“I’m just really freaked out by this whole thing and I’ve hardly slept since it happened because I’m jumping at every noise.
“I hate the idea that this man is still walking about and I hope the police find him.”
Officers are now keen to trace the man who tried to break into the property.
He is described as being in his early twenties, around 5ft 7in, of slim build with short dark hair and white skin.
He was clean shaven and wearing a dark hooded top at the time of the incident.
Anyone who was in the area at this time and saw a male matching the description is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
