Bosses at Dundee coach company Fishers Tours are counting the cost of a major blaze at their city depot.
Flames tore through a large warehouse on Mid Craigie Road on Sunday evening causing considerable damage.
Fire crews battled successfully to prevent the fire from spreading and protected the firm’s fleet of buses.
The firm’s transport manager David Kidd told The Courier there had been two vehicles parked in the warehouse when the fire broke out.
And he said that without the actions of fire crews, who contained the blaze to just a quarter of the workshop, the impact could have been much worse.
As it was, Fishers were able to operate services without disruption, despite the investigations and clean-up that took place at the depot.
“Thankfully the firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the coaches,” Mr Kidd said.
“If they hadn’t responded so quickly then the results could have been terrible for us.
“One of the coaches had its lights melted by the heat and both have suffered smoke damage, but other than that our fleet is intact.”
The alarm was raised shortly after 11pm as flames burst through the roof of the workshop space at the depot.
It started in an area where staff toilets share space with sinks and storage areas for cleaning equipment.
The cause of the fire has yet to be established but bosses believe it may have been as a result of an electrical fault.
In addition to protecting the coaches, firefighters were also able to isolate a number of acetylene cylinders without the need for an exclusion zone.
“Crews found a large 30×80 metre, single-storey warehouse well alight,” a spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said.
“Around 25% of the building was involved and an aerial ladder was detailed to dampen down the structure while crews worked to contain the blaze.”
Firefighters remained on the scene for around two-and-a-half hours before they were confident the fire was out.
They revisited the premises on Monday morning to set up thermal imaging cameras, which confirmed there was no further threat of fire.
