Christian Nade hopes to benefit from Dundee’s rain-enforced break

Matt Lockwood has revealed that one of the Dundee players was actually relieved Saturday’s game against Hamilton fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.

The veteran defender gives new signing Christian Nade a lift from Edinburgh to Dens every day.

And Lockwood admitted that the French forward, who has not played for nearly a year, is now looking to take full advantage of the call-off to put even more hard yards in during training before next weekend’s crunch clash at Falkirk.

Lockwood said: “We were disappointed for the game not to go ahead but maybe it’s not a bad thing after all.

“Christian said to me in the car on the way back home to Edinburgh he was actually quite glad what had happened because it gives him another week to get even fitter.

“He’s obviously worked so hard to get fit again having not played for about a year so with another week’s training that should do him the world of good ahead of the Falkirk game.

“Christian is a great professional and you can rest assured that he’ll be in on Monday to get back to grafting on the training field.

“He’s a good target man he gives us some physical presence that we’ve probably been lacking up front and I know from talking to him that he’s desperate to get his career up and running again at Dundee.

“He lives just 500 yards from me in Edinburgh so I pick him up every morning for training.

“From speaking to him, it’s obvious he has a point to prove and has the hunger to go with it.

“This is the chance he’s been waiting for after a while out of the game and I don’t see why he wouldn’t grasp it with both hands.

“Hopefully he starts to show what he’s capable of from the Falkirk game onwards as that is a massive match which we want to take three points from.”

Lockwood said he was left frustrated after the late call-off of the Hamilton match, especially as the players were looking to make amends for last weekend’s defeat at home to Livingston.

“We’ve just got to take that frustration into the Falkirk game and look to stay top of the table,” he said.
