Storm Frank: Receding waters reveal major damage to Perth-Inverness railway line
ByRichard Burdge
Rail passengers travelling between Perth and Inverness face misery after the Storm Frank flooding badly damaged the line.
As the flood waters receded the extent of the damage became apparent with one section of track near Dalguise left hanging in mid-air with the supporting rail bank underneath swept away.
Another piece of track was left buckled and undulating as a result of the floods.
No service was operating between Perth and Inverness today but travellers face journey times extended by two hours as buses are laid on to make the trip.
A spokesman for National Rail said: “Flooding between Pitlochry and Dunkeld and Birnam has damaged the railway line.
“As a result, journeys are being disrupted between Perth and Inverness. This disruption is expected to continue until Monday January 11 whilst repairs to the track are being made.”For more on this story, see Saturday’s Courier.
