Police in Dundee only solve one in every two crimes committed in the city, new figures have revealed.
Only 2,261 of the 4,507 crimes that took place across the city between April and September the most recent recording period were detected by the police.
The figures, revealed by Chief Superintendent Eddie Smith, show that Police Scotland fared better in some areas of the city than others when it came to catching culprits.
There was a 5.4% increase in Group 1 crimes including violence on the same time last year across Dundee, with 118 recorded this year.
There were 64 serious assaults in the city, an increase of more than 16% from last year.
There has been a fall in some crimes, such as robberies, which fell by 32.4%, with 11 fewer incidents than the same six months in 2014.
Coldside had the highest number of reported robberies with seven, while the North East and the Ferry had no recorded robberies and Strathmartine just one.
Only eight of the 36 housebreaking incidents in the North East ward were solved, while in Lochee only two of 43 reported housebreaks were solved.
