PLans for a restaurant on the Dunsinane Industrial Estate which will create 59 jobs were approved, despite being originally recommended for refusal.
The application by Cloverleaf Restaurants, part of the Greene King group, was approved by a majority of three.
Discussing the proposals in a deputation, project manager Brian Edwards said: “We have clear training and staff development plans. Every staff member will be trained to MQB2 (an industry standard qualification).”
The proposed restaurant and bar, which will have 372 covers, will also include three specially constructed staff flats which “encourage pride in the business”.
The proposal, which is subject to conditions, had been scheduled for refusal as it contravenes two planning policies.
However, the strength of the company’s previous work and the opportunity for job creation, both in the restaurant itself and during its construction, eventually won the day.
Speaking to table the amendment seeking approval for the plans, Lochee councillor Alan Ross said: “I approve of the application.
“This plan brings jobs and the company have made a good point about their record in other areas. If it has worked in other places, why would it not work here? We should not always stick so rigidly to our guidelines.
“This application would be good for the area.”
