Dundee boss John Brown is demanding that his players consistently reach the high benchmark they set in terms of performance while beating Morton on Saturday.
The Dark Blues went a goal behind against the run of play to Allan Moore’s side but stormed back in the second half, scoring three and creating a hatful of other great chances.
That victory combined with league leaders Hamilton’s defeat at Alloa cut the gap between Dundee and the early pace-setters to just five points and Brown is now looking for more of the same from his players.
He said: “It’s vital we keep those standards up. That was more like us against Morton and it shows what we’re capable of.
“Now we’ve got to try and do that week in week out because that’s what we expect of ourselves. The lads are buzzing after Saturday and the important thing is to carry that into the next game against Cowdenbeath.”
Alloa’s victory over Hamilton may have been seen as a “coupon buster” but Brown insists it was a result that did not come as a shock to him.
He added: “We are in a league where everyone can cut each other’s throats. Alloa have proved they are a decent side so it doesn’t come as that much of a surprise that they beat Hamilton.
“It’s still early days but we know this is going to be a tough league campaign.”
