The future face of one of Dundee’s main shopping centres is under question, after one of its largest retailers announced a potential closure.
BHS confirmed it would only be able to keep its Wellgate Centre store open if the landlords agree to a “significant” rent reduction.
Meanwhile plans to open an eight screen cinema complex within the centre appear to be at a standstill, three years after the development proposals were revealed.
A BHS spokeswoman said: “We are doing everything we can to keep all of our stores open.
“Unfortunately our Dundee store is one where we need a significant reduction in rent to reduce it to a market rate, so its future depends on successful discussions with its landlord.”
A spokesman for the Wellgate said that there were still plans to create a cinema complex but that the project was still in the planning stage with no opening date confirmed.
