Family, colleagues and pupils have paid warm tributes to a Tayside mother of four and teacher who has lost a long battle against ovarian cancer.
Judy Wilson, who was 61, died on Friday.
The Forfar Academy principal science teacher had taught across Dundee and Angus during her career, which included spells at the former Newtyle School and Lawside Academy.
Mrs Wilson’s husband John paid tribute to a “passionate teacher” who “always believed that teachers are there to give a wide experience of life.”
He added: “She thought there is more to life than just learning stuff there is a big world out there that she had to prepare the kids for.”
Dozens of pupils and former pupils also posted messages online showing how much of an impression she had made on their lives.
One said: “School would be a better place if more teachers were like Mrs Wilson. Brilliant balance in her teaching. Brilliant woman. RIP.”
Another said: “Didn’t believe the sad news today. Amazing woman and brilliant teacher. RIP Mrs Wilson x.”
Another of her pupils posted: “RIP Mrs Wilson, an amazing lady. One of the strongest women and always thought of others. Ski trip wouldn’t have been the same without her.”
Mrs Wilson was also described as a “great woman, great teacher and a great friend to all of her students” who “always made time for others.”
Forfar Academy head teacher Melvyn Lynch held a special assembly for sixth-year pupils on Monday, leading tributes to “a very popular colleague, teacher and friend”.
He told The Courier: “Forfar Academy staff and pupils were greatly saddened to receive the news of the untimely death of Judy Wilson, our principal teacher of science.
“Our sympathies go to her family at this sad time.
“Judy touched the lives of all who came into contact with her and made a happy difference in our lives.
“We have many happy memories to share and look back on, as we mourn her loss, while remembering the lovely and caring individual that she was and the joy she took in life.”
Mrs Wilson is survived by her husband John, their four children Jane, Simon, Kirsty and Catriona, and grandchildren Cormak and Reuben.
