Laurencekirk flyover condition no barrier to Montrose business park approval
ByGraham Brown
Angus councillors have given the green light to a multi-million pound Montrose business park after driving over a planning condition which would have stalled the development until completion of the long-awaited A90 Laurencekirk flyover.
But the Scottish Government may now call in the John Lawrie Group plan for the 50-hectare development on the Angus town’s former wartime airfield.
Transport Scotland recommended a suspensive condition delaying any work until the blackspot A90 crossing with the A937 leading to Montrose is upgraded.
Last month the government announced £24 million of funding for the project but no firm timescale has been set.
Montrose councillor Paul Valentine said: “It’s a restrictive condition putting at risk this and future developments and we need to get the message out that Angus is open for business.”
