Food Safety officers are warning that a jelly sweet aimed at children could be a choking hazard.
The ‘New Choice’ brand Mini Fruity Gels, found on sale at a Vietnamese Supermarket in London contained four banned additives that could create a threat of choking.
Craig Melville, convener of Dundee City Council’s environment committee, said: “The Food Standards Agency has issued a warning to departments across the country to keep a look out because they cannot get full distribution details or product traceability records for these products.
“While there is no evidence that these sweets are on sale in Dundee, it is worth asking consumers to be vigilant.”
Jelly mini cups, are not permitted to contain a number of additives, including alginic acid (E400), agar (E406), Carrageenan (E407) and processed euchema seaweed (407a) as they may pose a choking hazard.
Anyone seeing the products should call Food Safety on 436260.
