Raith Rovers could land a deal to sign an English Premier League striker on loan after Harry Redknapp offered to put in a ‘good word’ for the Fifers at his old club Spurs.
Rovers manager Ray McKinnon caught up with Redknapp earlier this week when the former West Ham, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur boss was a speaker at Raith’s annual hall of fame evening.
The 68-year-old, who resigned as QPR manager earlier this year, was joined by long-term side-kick Joe Jordan in entertaining the audience at the event on Monday, when the late Joe Baker, David McGurn, Colin Harris, John McStay and Frank Connor were inducted into the Stark’s Park hall of fame.
McKinnon grabbed a word with the guests and, with Jon Daly set to depart for a role as Hearts under-20s coach in January, cheekily asked for some help in his search for a replacement.
McKinnon said: “I got a chance to speak to Joe Jordan and Harry Redknapp the other night and I did ask Harry if he could find us a striker down in England.
“He said he would have a word with Mauricio Pochettino at his old club Tottenham, so we’ll have to follow that up.
“Harry said he’s a right good lad and would put in a good word for us.
“You never know, he might come up with a goal-scorer for us.”
Redknapp and Jordan were in high demand at the function but McKinnon enjoyed a brief chance to pick their brains, even if their managerial circumstances have been worlds apart.
McKinnon began his coaching career at junior side Lochee United and joined Raith in the summer after nearly three years with part-time Brechin City.
He added: “The two of them have always been at big, big clubs, and big clubs with a bit of money.
“When you’ve got those kinds of resources you can bring in the players you want.
“It’s not quite the same here at Raith, it’s a wee bit different for us!
“But it was still good to get the chance to speak with guys like that who have been there and done it.”
