Arbroath came alive to the sound of the blues at the weekend as 34 bands turned up the volume in the town.
With more bands than ever taking part this year, revellers enjoyed 55 free gigs in 17 venues at the Bell Rock Blues Festival.
From solo acts to six-piece bands, blues aficionados from across the country flocked to Arbroath for the festival, now in its eighth year.
Acts included 2 Wheels Good, Al Hughes, the Declaration Band, Dr Brown and the Groovecats, Junkyard Dogs, Midnight Blues Band and Smokehouse.
The festival started out as a bolt-on to Arbroath’s Sea Fest but demand was such that it now runs as a stand-alone event. Festival committee member Nigel Clinkscale said each year the festival gets a bit bigger and a bit better.
He said: “The fact that the festival is separate from the Sea Fest is great as it means the town benefits twice in one month.”
Arbroath councillor Donald Morrison said: “The festival organisers are to be congratulated for the time and effort they take in planning and ensuring the festival goes ahead.
“The fact that the event is getting bigger shows how important this is in showcasing what Arbroath has to offer to a local, national and international audience.
“The knock-on effect from these events are also vital to the pubs, restaurants, B&Bs and the wider local economy and long may the Blues Festival and other events continue for years to come.”
Arbroath councillor Martyn Geddes added: “It’s a fantastic event and the organisers should be praised for the amount of work they have put in to promote the event.
“The town is always busy and the festival gives locals and visitors the chance to experience new music at different venues.”
