A Newport-on-Tay couple were killed in a plane crash on the west coast of Scotland as an Easter holiday ended in tragedy
David Rous and his wife Margaret Ann Maclean were flying from Dundee Airport to Tiree to visit family when their private plane crashed in high winds.A major search and rescue operation was launched when contact with Mr Rous’ PA28 Piper Cherokee light aircraft was lost on Saturday.Teams scoured miles of remote loch and hillside before the wreckage of the plane and the bodies of its two occupants were discovered as darkness fell.The cause of the accident is now being investigated.The search was launched after radar contact with the plane was lost at around 1.50pm in the Beinn nan Lus area of Glen Kinglass.
A multi-emergency response involving the police, ambulance service and the coastguard was co-ordinated.
Police Scotland confirmed that the wreckage of an aircraft was discovered on the northern aspect of the Glen Kinglass area at around 8pm on Saturday.
Chief Inspector Fergus Byrne said: “Police Scotland has been working with partner agencies throughout the day to locate the aircraft and our thoughts are with the families of the victims.
“Enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
“Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact police via the non-emergency number 101.”
No further details will be released at present, the police said.
