A man who threatened to slit a police officer’s throat and attempted to set a police van on fire has been jailed.
John Marc Brand, 21, of Montrose Street, Brechin, was imprisoned for 14 months when he appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court on Thursday after admitting a string of around 20 offences.
Sentence on Brand had been deferred at a previous appearance for the preparation of social work reports after he pleaded guilty to numerous offences, many against the police.
Several incidents took place in October this year and included theft by break-in, breach of bail, breach of the peace, resisting arrest, assault of a police officer, and threatening to kill several police officers while possessing a knife.
During an incident on September 13 on the A90 between Brechin and Dundee Brand also admitted that he shouted, swore and repeatedly threatened to slit a police constable’s throat.
He also admitted that on the same day he attempted to set fire to a police Ford Transit van by using a lighter to ignite an electric cable along with other offences.
Defence agent Bob Bruce said that Brand had issues that needed to be addressed and suggested a high tariff community- based disposal.
Sheriff Kevin Veal backdated Brand’s sentence to October 31.
