Dundee United fans could be put off attending the Scottish Cup final because of prohibitively high ticket prices, a group of supporters’ clubs has said.
The Federation of Dundee United Supporters’ Clubs has expressed their “extreme shock and anger” at the prices, which could see family groups paying hundreds of pounds to travel to Glasgow and watch the match.
And the group believes that the ticket prices could put the game out of financial reach for many fans.
The prices are the same as for the Celtic versus Hibernian cup final last season, which had two ticket brackets priced at £35 or £28, with concessions charged at £10.
However, some United fans believe that there will not be enough of the lower priced tickets to meet demand.
The statement from the federation, which includes almost 30 supporters’ clubs representing more than 1,500 Arabs, said: “Following the release of ticket prices for the upcoming Scottish Cup final, the Federation of Dundee United Supporters’ Clubs would wish to express their extreme shock and anger at the prices quoted.
“We would express our concerns that the prices for both sets of fans will make the game out of the financial reach of the majority who may wish to attend the game.
“We are of the opinion that Scottish football’s showpiece club game should be as highly attended at possible, but these prices will result in a significantly reduced attendance.
“We would therefore request that all parties involved reconsider the decision and take on board the discontent which has been expressed by the fans with respect of the pricing policy.”
Dundee United fans yesterday took to social media to express their frustration with the pricing.
Bobby Kid wrote: “It is working out at about £130 for tickets and travel for a family of four, before a pint.”
Tony Cooke wrote: “I will be (paying) around the £200 mark all in with travel.
“The Scottish Football Association is robbing people.”
However, other fans believed the tickets represented good value.
Ryan De Gernier wrote: “It is the same prices as last season’s final between Celtic and Hibs.
“I agree they are a little overpriced but it’s not London prices.”
The Scottish Football Association was contacted for comment on the claims but had not responded by the time of going to print.
