The opening of Dundee’s newest hotel has been pushed back yet again.
The luxury Malmaison hotel will now not open until at least the end of January, The Courier can reveal.
Uncertainty has beset the boutique establishment since it suffered severe flooding just days before its scheduled opening on December 1.
The flooding, which damaged bedrooms, the lobby and brasserie, forced the hotel to cancel hundreds of Christmas bookings, leaving some customers extremely disgruntled.
‘Joey’ writing on The Courier website, said: “(I) spoke to Malmaison last week when it became obvious that the alternative date they offered of 9th December was not going to happen.
“All told (I spent) almost one hour on a premium line and finally agreed a new date in late January but they wanted to charge £179 when the price for the original date of 1st December was £99.
“This is indeed now a farce, and their customer service reaction to events is nothing short of deplorable.”
However, other customers seem satisfied with the hotel’s response to the delayed opening.
Fiona Norval wrote: “We had a Christmas party night booked for this Sunday so we were emailed last Wednesday to say unfortunately it had been cancelled and I was given a Dundee number to call.
“I dealt with the girl who I had booked through and she was very apologetic. The money was refunded quickly.
“It’s a shame as we’d really been looking forward to it but it’s hardly something to get upset about.”
Another writer said: “I had a room booked over Christmas (and) got an email from them last week saying that I can change the date, move to a different Malmaison or offered a full refund and that they will be calling me this week to discuss.
“I would say that is acceptable from their side.”
Malmaison took out a 35-year lease on the former Tay Hotel with the option of a further 35 years.
