A 16-year-old deckhand died after a roll-on roll-off ferry sailing from Fife collided with his fishing boat off the Scottish coast.
On Thursday at the High Court in Glasgow second officer Pasquale Miccio, 48, from Sorrento, Italy, who was in charge of the Scottish Viking, admitted failing to change course or heed warnings from crew members about the proximity of the fishing boat.
The fatal collision took place on August 5 2010 when the ferry, sailing to Zeebrugge from Rosyth, hit a prawn fishing boat, Homeland, at St Abbs Head near Eyemouth, Berwickshire.
Daniel McNeill drowned and his brother Joseph, 20, who was skippering the vessel, was rescued.
Judge Lord Bannatyne deferred sentence.
