Super sub Grant Anderson scored with his first touch to earn Raith a fifth consecutive league win on Saturday.
The winger struck in the 79th minute just 30 seconds after being introduced from the bench to seal a 1-0 win over Alloa at the Indodrill Stadium.
“It was my very first touch,” Anderson said. “I was three yards out and it took about six bobbles before it went in. I just put my side foot on it and just hoped for the best.
“I was a wee bit disappointed to be dropped but the guys have been doing brilliantly over the last few week and the gaffer wanted to change it up.
“When you’re on the bench you want to make an impact and I’ve managed to do that. I put a couple of good crosses in as well.
“I’m quite happy with what I managed to do in the 15 minutes I was on for.”
The three points kept Raith second in the table ahead of a big match against Hibs at Stark’s Park on Saturday.
“Points against teams like Hibs and Rangers are good, but these are the bread and butter points that you’ve got to take if you want to challenge,” Anderson said.
“You’ve got to play nasty, play horrible you’ve just got to win and we managed to do that.”
Raith had the better of the first half chances, with three opportunities falling their way in as many minutes.
Mark Stewart forced a flying save out of Andy McNeil in the 15th minute with a dipping volley, and from the corner, Craig Wighton saw an effort blocked on the line.
Jon Daly was guilty of a bad miss in the 17th minute as he stretched to send Stewart’s cut back over the bar from six yards.
Alloa threatened after the break but striker Michael Chopra was unable to make the most of two glaring chances.
He headed straight at Kevin Cuthbert from Michael Duffy’s cross in the 54th minute then, three minutes later, the Raith keeper foiled Chopra again with a point-blank save.
Daly went close, with a header from a Ryan McCord free-kick going just too high, before both teams made a double change in the 78th minute.
It was the Raith switch that paid immediate dividends as sub Mitch Megginson drove into the box, and after his attempt was blocked on the line, fellow sub Anderson knocked home the rebound.
Raith boss Ray McKinnon said: “I was hopeful the subs would make an impact, but I wasn’t expecting it to be instant.
“I just wanted an injection of pace on both flanks and luckily it worked for us.”
