East Fife caretaker boss Gary Naysmith will be in charge of the team for Saturday’s home game with Stenhousemuir.
The former Scotland defender has been taking the players following the resignation of Willie Aitchison and has enlisted the help of former Dundee United legend Paul Hegarty, who is working on a voluntary basis.
While that goes on, a flurry of applications for the Bayview hotseat have been received, although Murray confirmed that Naysmith will get a chance to prove he is capable of stepping up into the manager’s role on a permanent basis.
“We’ve had a fair number of people applying for the post, so we’re just going through the applications,” he told Courier Sport.
“The calibre has been very good very, very good actually and we can’t complain.
“Gary will be interviewed like everyone else, but he’s got a chance to impress and he’s going to take the team on Saturday.
“We don’t feel as if we’re in a major hurry about making a decision and we’ll take our time.”
Naysmith has made no secret he wants the job, and is working with new coach Dougie Anderson and Hegarty as he aims to guide the Fifers to victory this weekend.
Murray was happy to see the Tannadice legend lend a hand on an unpaid basis following Naysmith’s request.
“Heggy is giving Gary a hand with his expertise and he was his reserve team manager at Hearts, so that’s how the connection came about,” he continued.
“They go back a long way, they’ve always been pals, and I think when he got the chance he thought Heggy could add some experience.”
