A fast-throwing Angus darts player hit the winning double this weekend to win the World Cup for Scotland.
Alan Soutar from Arbroath was part of the Scottish team taking part in the World Cup of Darts in Canada alongside Ross Montgomery, Gary Stone and Craig Baxter.
“Soots” hit the winning double eight in the final against the USA for a 9-7 victory after the Scots swept aside all before them in the knock-out stages.
There was also a bronze medal in Canada in the youth event for local girl Rebecca Graham who attends the Angus Darts Academy which is run by Alan in Arbroath.
Alan Soutar has been helping bring through the next generation of players in the area and the World Cup win has added to a great year so far for him.
He was recently put forward for an RBS Finding Scotland’s Real Heroes award in the category of sporting volunteer of the year.
Alan, who played at the BDO World Championship in 2011, helped set up the Angus Darts Academy at the beginning of last year and young people continue to pour through the doors and impress the coaches.
Alan started playing darts at a very early age in the Skate Inn. He played in the men’s leagues in Arbroath and Forfar aged just 14.
