Glasgow rugby have punished seven “employees” over a late night incident which left a player from another team with severe facial injuries.
Four Warriors players are due to appear in court next month charged with seriously assaulting Ally Maclay in the wake of a Halloween party.
Club officials launched their own probe into the episode and found seven people guilty of involvement, either in the incident or the lead-up.
A spokesman refused to reveal their identities or the nature and degree of their punishments. Not all of the seven are current squad players.
A spokesman said: “Glasgow Warriors have conducted an internal investigation into an incident involving employees in Glasgow last month.
“As the result of the investigation, the club have have held disciplinary hearings with the employees concerned. Disciplinary action has been taken against seven individuals as a result of the incident, with a range of sanctions imposed.
“Details of the investigation and hearings will remain confidential at this time. The club will be making no further comment at this stage.”
The spokesman rejected suggestions Glasgow fans who fork out to watch matches and in effect help to pay the wages had the right to be told who was involved and what the sanctions are.
He said: “The matter is purely between the club and their employees. It is a private and confidential situation.
“After all, we wouldn’t divulge details of player contracts.”
Scotland and Warriors stars Ryan Wilson, Ryan Grant and Sean Maitland are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court next month, along with young squad player Rory Hughes.
They have all been charged with assaulting Glasgow Hawks player Maclay at a fast-food shop in the city’s West End. They are also accused of assaulting another man the same night.
None of the players has entered a plea, but have given undertakings to appear. Maclay was treated at the Western Infirmary for a fractured eye socket.
Doctors are understood to have told Maclay this week that he will not require surgery.
