Storm-damaged Tay Road Bridge to close southbound for repairs
ByMark Mackay
The storm-battered Tay Road Bridge will have to close to southbound traffic this evening to allow engineers to make repairs.
Winds of 100.2mph were recorded on the bridge’s south tower on Monday evening as Storm Henry tore through.
That caused significant damage to lighting columns and will result in some disruption to late-night motorists.
A spokesman for the Tay Road Bridge said: “We will be undertaking a short term closure of the southbound carriageway tonight following damage to lighting column heads by Storm Henry.
“Works are anticipated to last for approximately 30 minutes and will commence at approximately midnight.”
The bridge had to be closed on Monday as wind speed gusted beyond 80mph.
It remained closed to high-sided vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians into Tuesday afernoon.
