Malmaison Dundee will throw open its doors to guests on December 1, it has been revealed.

The boutique hotel chain has been a hotly-anticipated new name for the city’s waterfront redevelopment, and its opening is regarded by many as the first tangible step of Dundee’s £1 billion regeneration.

“It’s very, very good news that we’ll be opening on December 1 and be holding our first party night on the fifth,” hotel general manager Claire Livingston said.

The date comes just in time for the chain’s 13th location with anticipation from would-be restaurant and bar-goers having already guaranteed a fully-booked Christmas party period.

The hotel will employ around 100 people, with around 70% of roles now filled.

An additional recruitment day will be held early next month.

The £15 million restoration project had initially been due to open in July, but a slipping development schedule saw the original date put back to September, then November.

Malmaison chief executive Gary Davis said then that the firm’s priority was to complete the renovation to the highest possible standards.

“You get these development issues when you have a building that’s more than a 100 years old you just find things that you didn’t know were there,” he said.

“We want to get the building right.”

The company which is owned by US private equity group, KSL Capital Partners already has outlets in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and is due to redevelop the St Andrews Golf Hotel for reopening under the Hotel du Vin brand early next year.
