Hundreds of walkers are expected to take to the streets of Dundee to help raise money for people recovering from cancer later this month.

The third annual Twilight Walk in Dundee will see teams setting off from the Dundee University Sports Ground at Riverside Drive at 3pm on April 26.

Organised by charity Breast Foot Forward in conjunction with Dundee University’s Institute of Sports and Exercise (Ise), the event raises money and awareness to support people recovering from breast and prostate cancer.

The walkers can take part in either a short 6.5-mile route along the Tay to City Quay, up through the town centre and along the Perth Road or the longer nine-mile route which takes in Invergowrie Nature Park before returning to the sports centre.

One of the walkers taking part this year said: “The help I’ve had from the team at Ise following my cancer operation early last year has been tremendous.

“I’m so grateful to have been given a new lease of life. It’s a pleasure to be able to give something back through the Twilight Walk.”

Twilight walkers raised £25,000 last year which paid for the extension of the initial research-based programmes funded by the charity.

Liz Milligan, trustee of Breast Foot Forward, said: “Already, the sponsorship gathered by The Twilight Walk, has allowed the extraordinarily successful development and coordination of programmes, facilities and professional staff in Dundee, to work together to further the care and support of those recovering from cancer surgery.

“This year’s support is imperative to ensure that the programme is extended to help people affected by cancer in the whole of Tayside.

“The aim is to ensure people can enter the referral process and be fully supported through their journey to live an active and fulfilling quality of life beyond their cancer diagnosis.”

Participants in the Twilight Walk will receive a T-shirt ahead of the event, as well as a medal and goody bag at the end.

Registration forms are available to download from www.breastfootforward.org and should be completed by Monday.
