Dundee Sheriff Court.

A Monifieth pensioner who drove at 3.30pm after drinking into the early hours of that morning was found to be almost twice the legal limit.

Former company director Alexander Pluck, 65, crashed his car into two other cars after swerving over both lanes on the Kingsway, the sheriff court was told.

Pluck, who founded Exitagent Ltd, had been drinking vodka before getting into his vehicle in the afternoon.

He was fined £900 and banned for 18 months after admitting that on January 15 at Kingsway and elsewhere he drove carelessly caused the collisions and drove with excess alcohol (66 mics).

Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson said Pluck, of Dalhousie Street, swerved into the other lane and collided with another vehicle, causing it to be pushed against the central reservation.

“The accused lost control of his car and swerved over both lanes, mounting the kerb and sliding across a grass verge before colliding with a parked car,” she said.

Solicitor Robin Beattie said Pluck consumed a large amount of vodka the previous evening and continued to drink into the early hours.

He said he was “surprised” to discover he was over the limit.
