Pupils at a rural Angus school have been given advice on “stranger danger” after a man approached a little girl in the street.
The youngster was walking along a Letham road on Wednesday night when the man stopped and spoke to her.
The incident was brought to light by concerned parents on Thursday morning and the matter was referred to Police Scotland by the local school.
Officers have asked residents for any information on the man’s identity, or on any strange activity in the area of Gardyne Street.
A spokesman for Tayside Division said: “Police Scotland are making enquiries into an incident where a man has approached a nine-year-old girl in Gardyne Street, Letham.
“The incident took place at around 6.30pm and police are investigating the circumstances.
Parents of children who attend the village primary school received an email from head teacher Karen Frain, who thanked them for bringing the matter to the school’s attention.
She wrote: “On their advice we have spoken to all classes this afternoon about ‘stranger danger’ without trying to make them scared, while still reinforcing a clear message.
“We would also encourage parents to be extra vigilant over the Easter break, again without causing too much additional alarm.”
