Proposals to open a Dunfermline nightclub until 4am have been thrown out.
Fife Licensing Board unanimously rejected GXH Ltd’s plans to open Life, on the town’s historic Kirkgate, later than its current 2am on Friday and Saturday nights.
The decision came as a relief to neighbours who had complained about noise and about the behaviour of revellers leaving the club.
An agent for the company, which had taken over Life in March, said it could not be proved antisocial issues originated there, as it was a busy thoroughfare, with pubs, hot-food takeaways and taxi ranks nearby.
Police had catalogued the number of calls complaining about Life.
Of 52 calls made since the new management stepped in, 41 came from one complainer.
The agent for the company said it had spent a considerable sum on refurbishment work.
It had also changed to a new stewarding firm.
She argued the extension was needed.
She said Life had lost 50% of its trade since other clubs in the area had been allowed to open until 4am.
