The Unicorn has secured a four-figure grant to provide free trips around the frigate to children under eight.
Youngsters and their parents will be able to get to grips with the Dundee ship’s cannon, interior and figurehead over the next 12 months thanks to the £8,975 funding from the Big Lottery Fund and the Scottish Government.
The money will also finance art and costume-making activities.
Roderick Stewart, operations director of the Unicorn Preservation Society, said: “We are delighted with it. It’s immensely important to get young people into the Unicorn.
The Unicorn Preservation Society is just one of 21 groups and organisations across Scotland which will receive a share of £148,306 thanks to grants from the Communities and Families Fund, a joint venture from the Big Lottery Fund and the Scottish Government.
