Brechin City will be concentrating on climbing back towards the table’s top half when bottom club Airdrieonians visit Glebe Park.
City, without a win in four games and with just a point from their last three league fixtures, currently sit in seventh spot and could be forgiven for seeing the fixture as something of a crossroads for them.
Victory could see them close the gap on the teams above them, although a defeat would cut their cushion over the Diamonds from five points to just two and drag them right back in the firing line.
However, manager Ray McKinnon is focused on getting back into the play-off picture at the right end of the table against an Airdrieonians team still waiting for their first win under new boss Gary Bollan.
“Our intention at the start of the season was to be challenging for a promotion place and that remains the case,” he said.
“It would be good to take a step towards doing that in the second half of the season by winning this game.
“But Gary Bollan will be looking to get his side winning games as soon as possible, so we have to be wary of Airdrie.
“They may not have played last week but I know Gary had them in working hard so we have to be ready from the first whistle.
“We have not put together a decent run in the league so far this season and it would be good to put that right.”
The Diamonds have only won twice this season but one of those was at home to Brechin, when they ran out 3-1 victors.
McKinnon added: “They defeated us down at their place and it would be good to make up for that as well.
“I was pleased with our performance against Forfar in the Scottish Cup last week.We created a lot of chances but we were not ruthless enough in front of goal.
“But if we play in the same manner against Airdrie I am sure we will pick up the three points.”
Stuart Anderson is back after suspension and Ewan Moyes is available before his Scottish Cup ban, although Paul McLean is suspended. Bobby Barr also misses out following groin surgery.
