We didn’t get the chance to see any of the tennis at the weekend while we were at the European Championships but it’s been like Wimbledon all over again since we came back with all the publicity Andy Murray is getting.
It’s all deserved, of course.
I think that might be the end of his Davis Cup story, though.
His efforts to win the trophy for his country went above and beyond the call of duty.
As soon as the US Open was finished the Davis Cup was his number one priority and that probably cost him ranking points, prize money and the chance of doing better in the Tour Championships at the O2.
I can’t see him doing the same again.
The last few years will be all about trying to top up his tally of majors, and the scheduling of the Davis Cup means that often playing in it is a handicap.
Why else have Djokovic, Nadal and Federer stopped playing it?
Andy’s done more than enough to be a bit selfish now and put himself first.
* He wasn’t putting himself first with his comments about the LTA and the lack of players coming through in Britain.
I read what he had to say about the performance centre in England being empty and it was really sad.
It was quite surprising because you would expect tennis in this country to be in good shape at grassroots on the back of Murray’s success.
I’m at Stirling University a lot and the tennis facilities there seem to be busier than ever.
Judy Murray has put in a lot of work and you can see the results.
From the outside looking in, it would seem to me to be a no-brainer to get her involved at the very top of British tennis.
I can’t think of anyone better qualified. And I’m sure she’d get Andy’s vote!
* It always takes me a few days to get a bit of perspective after a tough loss and that’s been the case after the Euros final.
I can take a step back now and give ourselves an eight out of 10 for a good week.
Even though we wanted gold and I was gutted to lose the final to Russia, you can never be too upset with a silver medal at a major championships.
It’s another good week in terms of building towards the next Olympics.
We fly out to Canada at the weekend for another big event, so there’s been no time off really since we came back from Denmark.
We’re the defending champions and a good week will help pay for the Christmas presents!
* Curling will have a new event at the next Olympics mixed doubles.
There are some big competitions being held in Canada and some of the big names are taking part, with large prize pots on offer.
I don’t think it will be possible for somebody who is in the men’s or women’s competition to play mixed as well, but it would appear that Canada are certainly going to take it seriously.
I’ll be interested to see what strategy Britain take. I don’t know what will happen, but what I do know is 2018 isn’t that far away.
