Steven Anderson will be setting sail on a Mediterranean cruise on the day of the Scottish Cup final.
The Perth defender will leave it to other members of the family to do a recce of the facilities though.
Because making sure he can watch the Scottish Cup final is Anderson’s number one priority.
Like the rest of the Saints squad, wherever they may be dotted across the world, he will be cheering on Inverness Caledonian Thistle against Falkirk so that a fourth successive Europa League campaign will be secured for the McDiarmid Park club.
“My wife Sarah and I go on holiday the day after, heading down south,” Anderson explained. “We actually leave Southampton on Saturday for a cruise in the Med.
“I will have to ask people on the boat what the plan is for the Scottish Cup final. Maybe most of the folk on board will fancy watching the FA Cup final so it’s good news it will be a later kick-off.
“My father in law Tommy supports Musselburgh Juniors and they are in the Junior Cup final. So he will be wanting to watch that the following week. It is live on Alba.
“Both of us will find a way of watching the games, even if we have to stream it on the iPads.
“Obviously we are hoping Inverness do us a turn by beating Falkirk but it is a cup final so you never know what’s going to happen.”
Saints now have no control over their Europa destiny, but even if Falkirk win, it won’t diminish their sense of pride at finishing fourth – and securing a highest ever points total in the Premiership.
Anderson pointed out: “Top six was an achievement in itself but fourth is even better. And it gives us a chance of Europe now. But finishing fourth is brilliant.
“I haven’t kept tabs on the points total. I was more concerned with sealing fourth place.
“We have been a great defensive unit, solid as a team. Hopefully we can be just as solid next season.”
The former Dundee United was due to get his ankle operated on today, but he isn’t concerned about missing the start of the season.
He said: “I get a tidy up operation on my ankle on the 28th. It has been planned for a while now and it’s nothing to worry about.
“It’s another routine clean-up. I’ve been here before and know what to expect.
“I get three weeks away then I will be back in for the rehab. It is keyhole surgery, straightforward stuff.
“I will be sitting with my foot up on the boat. I won’t need a plaster cast fortunately. They will put it tubigrip and one of those blue support boots so I will be able to get around.
“The surgeon will want me walking straight away after the operation.”
Brian Graham and James McFadden have now left the club but Anderson paid tribute to their attitude in the crucial last few weeks of the season.
“I have to applaud guys like big Brian and Faddy who came on and turned the Aberdeen game along with Kano,” he said.
“Brian has signed for Ross County but every day he has come in and worked hard. He has dug us out of a few holes with his goals. He is a great lad and so is Faddy who came up with a great pass for the goal.
“Their attitude sums up what we are all about here.
“There is real solidarity about this squad and that comes from the gaffer. There’s spirit and everything you need to be a successful team.
“Some guys might have downed tools worrying about getting an injury when they are leaving. But it shows you the type of characters they are. They deserved to share in the celebrations after the game.”
