Dundee defender Paul McGinn believes his team are just about due a win against Aberdeen.
The clubs clash tonight at Pittodrie in what looks an extremely attractive meeting of two of the Premiership’s in-form teams.
The Dons will be confident, having battled back with only 10 men to beat Ross County last time out.
The visitors will be, too, having secured a fantastic result at Firhill to add to their New Year derby success over United.
It is all set up very nicely indeed and McGinn feels it could be Dundee’s turn to take all three points after losing 2-0 twice to Aberdeen this season.
The men from the Granite City were the dominant side when they won at Dens in early December, while it wasn’t much closer back in August up the road.
With the feelgood factor sweeping through Dens after the results against Partick and the Tangerines pushed them into the top six, McGinn feels the time is right to show their true selves to the Dons.
“I think we are really are due one against them,” said the 25-year-old defender.
“Last season we gave Aberdeen a lot of good games, whereas this year we maybe haven’t been so strong against them.
“Up at Pittodrie in the first match, in the second half we looked like we were going to go on to take the game but they ended up scoring. It was one of those matches.
“Don’y get me wrong, they were excellent against us down here the last time. We were well off the boil but they were really good.
“So this is a chance for us to prove a point and show what we can do against Aberdeen when we are playing well.
“We have made it too easy for them in the other games.
“We are confident after those two wins on the bounce.
“It should be a great game and I enjoy the Friday night matches under the floodlights.”
McGinn was asked about the various attacking threats in the Aberdeen side but he quite rightly pointed out that it will work both ways this evening.
Kane Hemmings, Gary Harkins and Greg Stewart were just three of those given name-checks as potential Dundee match-winners.
McGinn added: “Aberdeen do have threats all over the pitch but they will be worried about some of our players as well.
“Kane is flying just now and it’s a massive confidence thing for him.
“When Jeebs (Harkins) played like he did last weekend there is not much you can do to stop him.
“There is also what we call the Greg goal because he really should have that strike trademarked.
“If he gets his head up in the box he has a wee chop on his shot that you can’t do much about that.”
Dundee manager Paul Hartley is also anticipating a cracker of a clash tonight.
Hartley said: “It has the makings of a good game.
“They are scoring goals, we are scoring goals and there have always been goals in the matches between us.
“Hopefully, it might be the same this time.
“We know we will have to be at our best to beat this Aberdeen team.
“They are a very, very good side and Derek McInnes has done a brilliant job there.
“When you give them time to play they can hurt you and down here they were the better team, no doubt about it.
“We struggled to cope with their wider players.
“That is something we have spoken about and worked on.
“We will just play the way we normally play.
“That’s probably the only way we know to play considering the type of players we have in the final third.”
Hartley will include new signing Arturo, who arrived yesterday from Spain, in the travelling party as a spectator.
That means fans will have to wait a wee while before they get to see the former Cordoba striker in action.
The Dundee boss added: “He won’t be in the squad but he will be going to the game with us.
“He will be able to look at the style of play of both teams and see the standard.
“He will probably join in with the lads on Sunday for training and we will be working with him over the next week to 10 days until he gets used to the pace and tempo of Scottish football.
“We get him involved in a 20s games next week we’ll wait and see.”
