Brechin City manager Darren Dods praised the battling qualities his side displayed in the 1-1 draw against Peterhead at Glebe Park.
“To lose an early goal was disappointing but the players battled back and had quite a lot of the ball for the remainder of the half so we were a bit frustrated to go in at the break a goal down,” he said.
“However, the team spirit and confidence amongst the players is very good and we dug in deeper and kept going in the second half and got our reward when we got the equaliser with just 10 minutes to go.”
The Blue Toon got off to the perfect start when they opened the scoring after just six minutes.
Jordon Brown picked up the ball wide on the right and delivered a great pass to Leighton McIntosh at the edge of the City box.
The former Dundee striker then pushed forward into the box before firing in a shot which took a slight deflection from City defender Darren McCormack on its way into the net.
City fought back after the break and they got the reward their efforts deserved 10 minutes from time when great play from Isaac Layne created an opportunity for substitute Robert Thomson who wasted no time in blasting the ball past Graeme Smith in the Peterhead goal.
His namesake in the City goal then did his bit to ensure his side went away with a share of the spoils when he brought off two superb point-blank saves in quick succession from Brown and Kevin Dzierzawski.
Blue Toon boss Jim McInally said: “I’m disappointed not to have won the game given the number of chances we created. A real positive for me was the way our players fought straight back immediately after losing the goal.”
