Residents warn Angus Council ‘hands off our wardens’
ByGraeme Strachan
Sheltered housing residents in Angus have told their local authority: ‘Hands off our wardens’.
Angus Council officers went to visit complexes across the county in an effort to survey residents and their families about possible changes to their accommodation.
All-important site wardens who are the first port of call for many vulnerable tenants when they fall or enter difficulty are thought to be under threat as services could move in line with the controversial self-directed support model.
The consultations have caused an outcry among families with the reaction described as “extremely hostile”, while residents of one complex were told demand for sheltered housing had gone down.
North East Scotland MSP Alex Johnstone said: “This proposal has all the hallmarks of a blunt money-saving scheme dressed up as efficiency.”
