Christmas came early for four friendly Fife neighbours.

For the quartet, who all live in the Glenrothes KY6 2PX area, have scooped £100,000 from the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Its ambassador, Scott Quinnell, handed over the windfall to Janette Robertson, 64, Margaret Gibson, 66, John Philips, 80, and Brian McDonald, 51.

Former Royal Navy man John was lucky enough to not only receive £25,000 but also a new BMW.

“I was rather blase about the whole thing until Scott revealed the amount on the cheque as well as the new car. It was quite a surprise,” he said.

John and wife Jennifer want to take time to mull over how to spend their winnings, adding: “I’ll keep it in the bank so I have money for a change.”

Margaret, married to George, has lived in the same street for more than 40 years and knows the neighbours well.

Of the big announcement, she said: “We were all shaking. It was just brilliant, even though it was bucketing down with rain.

“The money has been a big boost and I won’t have to worry about the heating bills anymore.”

Janette added: “I can’t explain how I am feeling, it is absolutely magnificent.”

Janette and her husband Stewart will be able to spoil their children, Stewart and Steven, and grandchildren, Keane and Riley.

Brian, an IT officer for Fife Council, and his wife Angela are thrilled.

Angela was working when Brian was presented with the cheque.

“She screamed down the phone when I told her the good news,” he said.
