Missing Fife man’s girlfriend has new hope

The girlfriend of a missing Kirkcaldy man believes he may still be alive more than three months after he disappeared.

Kaylie Caulfield last saw Sandy Clarke on June 4 but says she has renewed hope her partner may not be dead, with no trace of a body having been found.

Mr Clarke, 37, was last spotted in the early hours walking east along Hayfield Road having just received treatment for head injuries at the Victoria Hospital.

Despite numerous police appeals and a task force dedicated to finding Mr Clarke, there remains no breakthrough.

In July, Ms Caulfield said she believed that Sandy was dead but without discovery of his body she now harbours hope her partner may yet be alive.

“I was convinced that he was dead but it’s been so long now that surely somebody would have found his body,” she said.

“I’m more hopeful that he’s alive now but I just want to know either way so that I can get closure.”

On leaving the hospital, Mr Clarke was said to have been carrying two Sports Direct bags containing items of clothing. Like Mr Clarke himself, these have not been discovered.

Police have established a team dedicated to finding Mr Clarke, acting on intelligence from the public.

Ms Caulfield has since called on the police to concentrate their efforts on Levenmouth, where she says Sandy had lots of acquaintances.

Asked how she had been coping since his disappearance, she added: “I’m not sleeping very well and I’m not eating either.

“Sometimes I’m not getting to sleep until seven in the morning, and I’m not going out any more. I feel like I’m wasting away.”

Inspector David Latto, the police officer in charge of the search for Sandy, said: “Our dedicated policing team is still in place and we are following up any leads that our inquiries throw up, but to date all inquiries have been negative.

“We would urge anyone with information to contact us, no matter how insignificant they feel it may be, and they can call us on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
