Work starts on final section of Loch Leven Heritage Trail

Work has begun on the final section of the £3 million Loch Leven Heritage Trail, which offers stunning views of one of Kinross-shire’s most popular beauty spots.

The last 6.5km section comes at a cost of £800,000 and should see the full 21km loop completed by spring 2014.

When this last phase is finished the full circuit will be available to walkers and cyclists, with full access for disabled people all the way round.

Neil Mitchell, SNH’s Loch Leven National Nature Reserve manager, said: “It’s terrific news that the last phase of the trail is under way. Once it’s complete, plenty of people are bound to join the 250,000-plus visitors who already enjoy walks at Loch Leven National Nature Reserve.”

The final consent was made possible by a deal between Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) and Classlochie Farm, through which SNH has purchased all of the Classlochie land between the trail and Loch Leven.

The first phase of the heritage trail, from Kinross to Burleigh Sands, opened in 2008.
