A Dundee woman experienced fireworks after her partner handed her a sparkler.
Sara Moultrie was shocked when William Dunn, who she has been with for more than six years, publicly proposed at the Baxter Park fireworks display on Tuesday night.
William, 35, enlisted the help of Tay FM DJ Ally Ballingall, better known as Ally Bally, to pop the question in front of thousands of bonfire night revellers.
Speaking to The Courier, William revealed the proposal had been hastily planned after two previous ideas fell through.
“Last night was a spur-of-the-moment thing because I originally thought about doing it at Christmas but Sarah doesn’t like the Christmas proposals because everybody does it,” he said.
“When I realised it was coming up to bonfire night I planned to get a projector to project on to the pavilion saying: ‘Sara Moultrie will you marry me?’ but Dundee City Council wouldn’t allow it.
“I managed to get hold of Tay FM who put the details on to Ally Bally. I got Ally Bally to ask the question and at that point I was behind her on my knee.”
William said he was “petrified” ahead of getting down on one knee.
He added: “I had enlisted the help of a friend to pick a ring and everything like that and even made sure her family were there.
“I was over the moon when she said yes everything fell into place.”
Sara, 25, added that as Ally Bally hinted at a surprise proposal for one of the ladies present, she said she hoped it wasn’t for her.
“I said to a friend ‘I’d be absolutely mortified if that was me’ and then it was!” she said. “I think that’s the first time I’ve ever been speechless I couldn’t move or do anything.
“I was really, really shocked. I didn’t think he’d do anything as extravagant as that I didn’t even think he’d ask.
“I won’t forget it, that’s for sure. I was embarrassed as I’m not a public sort of person but I wasn’t annoyed.
“Looking back, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.”
Ally said he was glad to help William out.
“In my few years’ experience I’ve been asked to do many things but I think this is the first time I’ve ever had to propose on behalf of someone,” he said.
“It’s nice to do something special like that, particularly a crowd that size it will be remembered. I’ve had a few texts from listeners today saying congratulations to them.”
