Fire service considers scrapping new £10,000 fuel monitoring system

A computer system designed to monitor the fuel consumption of fire appliances in Tayside could be scrapped only months after being launched.
The findings of an internal audit went before the Tayside Fire and Rescue Board sub-committee on Monday, where it emerged the system is considered ”unfit for purpose”.
Costing around £10,000, the tool records fuel consumption and where engines travel but ”configuration incompatibilities” have meant it has never been fully operational.
A report before committee members read: ”Tayside Fire and Rescue continue to work with the suppliers to explore the issues.
”The latest position is that as a back-up strategy Tayside Fire and Rescue are considering an exit strategy for the existing contract and re-tendering for a new system.”
