Dundee’s walk-in tax inquiry office is to close with the loss of about 10 jobs.
Discussions are under way about moving the affected personnel to other jobs in the service.
The Greenmarket office is one of 29 inquiry centres being closed by the HMRC in Scotland, and 281 in the UK, as it launches a new telephone support service.
The Public and Commercial Services Union has warned that two-and-a-half million pensioners, vulnerable workers and tax credit claimants will lose a vital service and 1,300 jobs will be at risk.
It is understood the Dundee office at Caledonia House, Greenmarket, employs seven advisers and a manager.
Dundee West MP Jim McGovern said he was appalled at HMRC’s decision as the whole national network is well used, and he called on the Government to support staff who are affected by the move.
