St Mirren 4 Dundee United 1: Jackie McNamara refuses to be down
ByCraig Smith
Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara refused to be too downbeat despite seeing his side’s winning run come to a shuddering halt at the hands of St Mirren.
The 4-1 Paisley defeat prevented United from making it seven straight victories in all competitions, but McNamara reckoned the comprehensive scoreline flattered the hosts in a game in which United who were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half found Buddies keeper Marion Kello in inspired form.
“There’s nothing to be down about,” he said. “In football sometimes you don’t get what you deserve.
“The 4-1 score is what everybody looks at but for me I look at everything in the game and it’s a game we could have won easily enough.
“We’re disappointed to lose the match and there were a few things that went wrong for us. But I thought the lads kept at it, even with 10 men we still tried to play football, and in all fairness I think their keeper has had three or four tremendous saves.”
