Ambitious plans to breathe new life into a massive empty Fife superstore have taken a step forward.
The owner of Fife Central Retail Park in Kirkcaldy has announced plans to redevelop the empty Homebase retail unit and improve car parking at the busy centre.
Following the closure of Homebase last August the retail park’s owner Hammerson has been considering the options for how to improve the vacant shop and make it more attractive to encourage new retailers to the town.
A PAN, a proposal of application notice, has now been submitted to Fife Council for the redevelopment of the vacant unit.
This sees the large store and garden centre replaced with five smaller retail units.
There would also be improvements made to the frontages of some of the existing units and alterations to the car park layout.
The public will be able to find out more about the proposals and comment on them at public exhibitions this week.
Colin Farrow of Hammerson has said that he wanted to work with local people to find out how they think the retail park can improve.
“As the owners of the retail park, Hammerson’s priority is to maintain Fife Central’s position as a vibrant, sustainable and high quality destination which provides the maximum number of jobs, as well as the opportunities and choice that the people of Kirkcaldy and the wider area expect.
“It is really important that residents and councillors get the opportunity to help shape any proposals that come forward for the retail park.”
The exhibitions will be held from 2 to 6pm next Friday and from 11am to 4pm the day after.
The exhibition will take place at the former Homebase unit itself.
