Blairgowrie High School has moved to quash rumours that activities planned for Sport Relief were cancelled after a row over pupils’ dress code.
Speculation spread after head teacher Bev Leslie announced she was pulling the plug on a planned non-uniform day.
Pupils took to social media to vent their frustration and alleged that the decision was linked to a disagreement over special commemorative hooded tops worn by some teenagers.
It is understood pupils were told to remove the hoodies while in class.
However, Mrs Leslie said the Sport Relief event was cancelled to let pupils concentrate on their upcoming exams.
She said: “A small number of our S6 pupils were extremely disappointed that I had taken the decision to cancel non-school uniform day.
“Some have been under the misapprehension that this was in relation to the wearing of commemorative hoodies. This is not the case.”
She added: “The success of our in-house events relies very heavily on the leadership and organisational skills of our senior pupils and, to relieve pressure on them, Friday’s non-school uniform day and activities were cancelled.”
Mrs Leslie said some senior pupils had reported workload pressure as their deadlines approached.
“We will still be fundraising through Blairgowrie Does Strictly and our Swimathon,” she added.
A Perth and Kinross Council spokeswoman added: “There have been inaccurate suggestions on social media that the cancellation was as a result of pupils wearing hoodies in class. All pupils have had a reminder to follow the uniform code.”
