A Dundee bus driver has been hailed after his quick thinking helped police track down a missing man with dementia.
Bus drivers in the city received a message urging them to look out for the missing man and the driver quickly realised that he had a passenger on board meeting the description.
After contacting his office, police were able to take the man to safety from National Express’s No 5 service.
The driver, who wished to remain anonymous, insisted each of hiscolleagues would have reacted in the same way.
The modest hero said: “I only did what any bus driver would do.I’m glad I was able to help andthat this person has been returned to safety.”
The driver involved in the incident has been praised by passengers.
Jim Glover took to Facebook to say: “Happy to say, the police duly didarrive and the missing person was safely taken by them to wherever they should be.
“Full marks to that driver!”
Fellow local, Sandra Craig, also praised the driver and described him as a hero.
She said: “Well done that bus driver a true hero!”
A spokeswoman for National Express Dundee said that each of their drivers are asked to look out for any potential missing people or vulnerableindividuals.
She also revealed that the driver in question would be rewarded for his actions.
She said: “Our drivers are encouraged to be watchful when the police appeal for help with a missing person in Dundee and we’re glad to see that in this case one of our employees was able to help track down the person concerned.
“We will ensure the driver is thanked sincerely for his actions.”
