The Scottish Parliament will not sit one afternoon next week to allow politicians to attend the funeral of Cowdenbeath MSP Helen Eadie.
A cross-party arrangement between business managers was made so members could attend without missing votes or debates on Tuesday.
Instead, Holyrood will sit until 8pm on Wednesday.Labour representative Mrs Eadie passed away last weekend after a short battle with cancer.
The agreement was reached earlier this week and ratified by MSPs on Wednesday. A motion of condolence for the popular parliamentarian will be held next Wednesday.
Labour business manager Paul Martin MSP said: “All of us within the Scottish Labour Group in Holyrood are touched and grateful for the support from other parties to move business to allow us to attend Helen’s funeral.
“The move I know is appreciated by us all and I am also glad that the parliamentary timetable has been altered to ensure that the business of the week can still be dealt with.
“I, like many others, look forward to commemorating and celebrating her life on Tuesday.”
